Expected Use:

  • The Global Header Navigation is comprised of many elements to enable a site visitor to browse, search, and explore multiple sections and pages of the Emerson.com site and other approved sites. This Layout Variant is used on Emerson.com as the top level Collection for the global navigation.
  • The Global Navigation is the persistent backbone of the Emerson.com website. It should feature links to all of the main sections of the site. Starting from the top, the thin black bar is known as the “Utility Navigation.” This section of the header is meant to feature important Emerson corporate links, Sign In for portals, and the Country/Language selector of the site.
  • Then next area below features the “Main Navigation”. This section allows visitors to select the logo to return to the home page at all times. Additional links include “Automation Solutions” and “Commercial Residential Solutions.” These two sections allow a user to select them as hyperlinks or hover on them to expose a submenu structure with drop-downs, also known as “fly-out menus”.
  • On scroll of the webpage, the Global Navigation shrinks the “Main Navigation” and hides the “Utility Navigation” from view. This approach reduces the amount of real estate taken by the navigation while it remains “sticky” or “pinned” to the top of the visitor’s browser window.
  • Please note, on viewports (screens) less than 1280 pixels wide, the Global Navigation responds to become mobile friendly.

How to Build the Header:

The G001/G001B is the representation of the complete global header navigation on emerson.com and other approved sites. You will see two variations on OSG for G001 (emerson.com) and G001B (Climate, ComRes eSites, and Other Approved Sites). While each of these has some differences, they are all built from the same two main parts:

  • G002 - Main Navigation - this is the white strip across the top of the page which houses the business logo, the Primary Menu, along with the shopping cart and search where applicable.
  • G004 - Utility Navigation - this is the black strip across the very top of the page above the Main Navigation which houses links to top level pages, login to commerce and locale selector where applicable.

While these two component collections sit together in the "Header" of a CoreMedia Page, there is no overarching G001 Collection that unites these two Collections. The G001/G001B designation is simply for reference in defining the Global Header Navigation as a whole. See the instructions (linked above) for building each of the two parts.
