Expected Use:
The black utility bar strip is at the top of every page. This section of the header is meant to feature important Emerson Corporate links, Sign In for portals/commerce, and the Country/Language selector of the site (where applicable).
For other approved sites (other than emerson.com), the far left of the utility bar (left aligned) will show:
- a link to emerson.com when appropriate, for the business to relate to the Emerson parent site, or
- an “Explore Emerson” dropdown for most of the ComRes sites. For the dropdown, this dynamic area will be expanded for five seconds the first time user navigates to the site’s homepage or until the user scrolls down the page. In subsequent visits, this area will be closed until the user selects the Emerson Brands Link. This link will dynamically open and close the brands section. This is intended specifically for ComRes sites, but could be repurposed for other use cases. **Component Update: During Maintenance Sprint 53, three requirements were updated for the “Explore Emerson” dynamic area. The cookie and interactions were updated per the following:
- Display on first visit was set to refresh every 14 days
- It will stay expanded / shown for 15 seconds
- When expanded / shown it will remain visible while a visitor scrolls on the page
How to Build the Utility Navigation:
Regardless of which site you are working on, you will create a Collection with the Layout Variant G004. This Collection is placed as the first item in the Header Placement on the Homepage of your site. The G004 layout variant and some of the items you add which have their own layout variants will control the specific styling behavior for the overall G004 Utility Navigation.
For emerson.com:
The utility nav on emerson.com is owned by Corporate Marketing. Please contact Corporate Marketing with any questions or needs regarding the utility nav. The contents are right aligned and stretch to the left as needed across the bar. The main Items in the Items List for the G004 Collection are:
- The first links are Corporate Pages - About Us, Investors and Careers
- The next two Pages are shared pages for Contact Us and News & Events
- The second to last item (second from right) is the commerce sign-in. This is an Action document type that has the ID set to "LogonForm". This is controlled by system code and is not directly editable by an author.
- The last item (rightmost entry) is the Locale Selector Modal. This is an Action document type that has the ID set to "localSelector". This is controlled by system code and is not directly editable by an author.
For other approved sites:
While the Items in the G004 - Utility Navigation will vary based on business requirements, the following will give a general expectation for the items in the utility navigation.
- The first item in the Items List (where appropriate) will be an External Link to emerson.com or the G025 - Brands Dropdown Collection for the ComRes approved sites as noted above. The first item will show as left aligned on other approved sites. In some cases, where the brand does not identify with Emerson, this may be excluded.
- The second item (where appropriate) is a "hidden" item for My Account which is a CoreMedia Augmented Page. This is a placeholder for commerce once logged in. Check with your Commerce team or the Commerce Governance Team for more details on this item.
- The primary use case for those business that have a direct relationship with Emerson, the links should mirror those on emerson.com and link to About Us, Investors, Careers, Contact Us, and News & Events. The Contact Us can/should filter directly to the business level rather than dropping into the overall Emerson Contact Us.
- The menu should also include on the far right a login/signup for commerce and locale selector when appropriate
- Beyond the standard use noted above, other items can be added or substituted as approved by platform governance. A couple examples are given for illustration:
- Order Status link on climate.emerson.com
- Blog external link on proteam.emerson.com
- Where to Buy rather than Contact Us on proteam.emerson.com
- About Us and Contact Us localized to the business on spectrex.net which is not an Emerson associated brand.
