The main search results page on emerson.com provides access to find all content available with a variety of views and the ability to facet and filter to specific categories of content. Search results integrate both CoreMedia marketing content as well as HCL Commerce product catalog information.
Each locale on emerson.com has its own search results. This means that content and catalog specific to a locale is shown in the results for a given locale. The search results in all locales also include everything in the Shared Product Asset site as well. All items must have appropriate tagging in CoreMedia for search results to display well and for faceting and filtering to be useful to the visitor.
There are two ways to highlight items in the search results. Handcrafted Search places a CoreMedia component above the search results grid highlighting a specific term such as a brand or a product with direct links to more information. Only one handcrafted search can exist for a given search term. Featured Search allows for results to show at the top of the search results for a given search term and marked as a featured result. This shows inline with the results rather than above the results grid like a handcrafted search. A Featured Search term can have multiple results highlighted (generally one to three results for a search term.) This can be applied to any of the search result tab categories such as documents, videos, and web pages. There is separate functionality in HCL Commerce to return the results for products.
The Search Results Page provides search results from the current locale for CoreMedia content, related catalog content and assets in the Shared Repository site. This requires combining results from two Solr indexes - one for CoreMedia and one for HCL Commerce. The tabbed search results allow for categorization of results in an attempt to provide easier routes for users to find the content they are searching for. In the latest iteration, a third external index was added on emerson.com for Automation Solutions for Serial Number Lookup with linking to MyEmerson for registered users.
You need to define facets on the Search results page. Additionally the facet names and filter values need to be listed in the bundle file for translation.
In order to have a well functioning on-site search and search results page, we must have well defined metadata and tagging of all content. This allows search to perform optimally and for the search results pages to display robust and complete details for search results. This also affects external SEO for Google, Baidu, Bing and other search engines.
